The Lagos State Government has vowed to restore water supply to areas affected by the halt in production at the Iju and Adiyan 1 waterworks following a leakage from an underground pipe in the Maryland area of the state.

A video on social media showed a flooded highway as a result of the leakage.

According to X user Wilson Obasa, the leakage occurred opposite the Maryland Mall.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the state was aware of the situation and was addressing it.

He explained that the leakage prompted the halting of production at the waterworks, which usually supply about 40 per cent of the metropolis.

He listed the areas currently not receiving water supply due to the disruption as Mainland, Lagos Island, Ikeja, Ketu Alapere, Mobolaji Bank Anthony, Oregun, Aromire, Allen Avenue, Surulere, and other affected locations.

The commissioner said a team from the Lagos Water Corporation is working tirelessly to fix the issue, adding, “I assure you that water supply will be fully restored as soon as repairs are completed.”
