Ondo clears 13 political parties for LG election
No fewer than 13 political parties have been cleared by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC, ahead of the forthcoming local council election in the state.
The state electoral body unveiled the list of political parties in its office in the state’s Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area.
With the election fixed for January 18, 2025, the commissioner in charge of communication, media, and information technology, Tunde Adeleye, disclosed that the parties were cleared following a screening conducted on Friday.

According to him, after the screening, the 13 political parties were found eligible to contest for the chairmanship positions in the state’s 18 local government areas and the councillorship positions in the 203 wards.
The cleared political parties include the Action Democratic Party, ADP, Action People’s Party, APP, All Progressives Congress, APC, All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Boot Party, BP, Labour Party, LP, New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.
Others are the People’s Democratic Party, PDP; the Social Democratic Party, SDP; the Young Progressives Party, YPP; the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP; and the Action Alliance. AA, and National Rescue Movement, NRM.
Meanwhile, the political parties cleared for the election by the ODIEC guidelines will commence campaign activities on December 26, 2024, and are expected to conclude on January 16, 2025.
