
The Nigeria Immigration Service has rescued 10 suspected trafficked persons in Jigawa state in the Babura local government area.
The operation took place at midnight, on January 12 as the suspects were intercepted by the operatives of the service.
The state Comptroller of NIS, CIS Musa made this known in a press briefing with pressmen in Dutse, the state capital.
According to him, the victims comprised eight females and two males and they were on their way to Europe through illegal routes which is against the international standard movement of people.
The NIS Comptroller explained that the victims’ ages are between 21 and 30 years and they came from Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Imo states.
During investigations, the NIS discovered that the victims were trafficked from various in Kano onwards to Babura with plans to
cross them across Niger Republic, Libya and Europe, especially into Spain and Italy as the final destination via the Mediterranean Sea which separates Africa from Europe.
The victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for rehabilitation and further investigation.
