As Nigeria celebrates the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Cross River State chapter of the Nigerian Legion and wives of the fallen heroes have appealed to the Cross River State government to fulfil all promises made to them.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is set aside every year to celebrate serving members of the armed forces and remember those who died in the line of duty.

At this year’s event held at the Millennium Park Cenotaph in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, the state chairperson of widows of the fallen heroes, Mrs Helen Andrew, lauded the Nigerian Army for its welfare packages for the families of the heroes, also appealed for support from corporate organizations and well-meaning Nigerians to address the issues that affect their welfare.

The state governor, Senator Bassey Otu, represented by his deputy, Peter Odey, assured the legion and the widows that the current administration is ready to make life comfortable for them, especially in terms of social intervention programs.

One after the other, the guests led by the state deputy governor filed out and laid wreaths at the tomb of the fallen heroes, including the service commanders, representatives of the diplomatic mission in the state, the chairman of the state chapter of the Nigerian Legion, and the representative of widows of the fallen heroes.

The firing of the volley, popularly called the gun salute, as well as the release of the pigeons to signify peace, climaxed the event.
