Niger State Government has said schools do not need to charge Parents Teachers Association (PTA) fees for pupils in primary and secondary schools across the state.
Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago announced this while speaking in Sarkin Pawa, Munya local council of the state, when he visited the area Thursday,16th January, in continuation of his project monitoring across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Bago maintained that the government had taken responsibility for the PTA fees for all children in public schools in the state, and asked parents and guardians not to pay PTA fees for their children anymore.
He also cautioned school administrators to stop collecting PTA from any school children, warning that anyone found wanting would be sanctioned accordingly.
The Governor advised parents to enroll their wards in school especially the girl child, adding that school uniforms should not be an impediment to any children from going to school, saying children can go to school with their personal dresses.
“Allow your children to go to school; school uniform should not be your impediment, and any teacher that sends your child back home, pls report him, he will also be sent packing from the school,” Bago warned.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the ongoing road project in the area and tasked the contractor with timely completion.
Bago also promised to construct the road from Sarikin Pawa to Kaduna State, construct a modern market, and provide potable drinking water and primary health care among others.
