Sunbeth Global Concepts has adopted the IFRS S1 and S2 sustainability disclosure standards in its first sustainability report, placing greater emphasis on how environmental and social risks are linked to business operations and financial performance.

The 2025 report, titled Responsible Sourcing, Pioneering Action, was launched in Lagos after a pre-launch event involving stakeholders and partners.

The company said it was the first agricultural company in Nigeria, across both the public and private sectors, to voluntarily adopt the standards issued by the International Sustainability Standards Board.

The standards provide a framework for companies to report sustainability-related risks and opportunities.
Sunbeth said its report covered its work in ethical sourcing, community resilience and traceability during 2025.

At the pre-launch event, Sunbeth’s Sustainability Manager, Modupe Ojo, focused on the commercial implications of sustainability, arguing that it should be considered beyond regulatory compliance.

She said sustainability had implications for cost management, revenue protection and the company’s continued access to important export markets.

The company’s Managing Director, Olasunkanmi Owoyemi, said adopting the standards had involved significant investment but was necessary for the business.

He said the approach would also help strengthen the business and its ability to support farmers whose livelihoods depend on access to international markets.

Sunbeth’s Sustainability Director, Oyinkansola Owoyemi, said the standards would require sustainability considerations to be incorporated into business decisions rather than treated solely as reporting requirements.

The report records the mapping of more than 140,000 hectares and 30,000 farmers for EUDR-ready traceability.

It also states that the company remediated 80 child-labour-risk cases through its Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems programme after joining the International Cocoa Initiative.

Sunbeth further reported that it trained more than 6,000 farmers and distributed 60,000 hybrid cocoa seedlings.
