Ekiti State governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has praised the heroics of a state firefighter, Higher Superintendent Osho Oluwasola.

Oluwasola and his team attracted the governor’s commendation for their rapid response in putting out a fire at a petrol station in Ado-Ekiti.

Oyebanji paid an unscheduled visit to Oluwasola, who was injured during the operation, and commended his selfless and heroic efforts.

Oyebanji said: “I came here to thank one of our gallant firefighters, who is a staff of Ekiti State Fire Service, Higher Superintendent Oliwasola.

“Oluwasola got injured while responding to an emergency fire incident at a filling station.”

The governor expressed his gratitude to Oluwasola on behalf of the government and people of Ekiti State for making them proud.

Oyebanji’s visit was also to follow up on Oluwasola’s recovery, having been hospitalised over the injury he sustained during the operation.

He hailed the team for their bravery, stating that their effectiveness in containing the fire was a reflection of the dedication of public servants in the state to their duties.

Oyebanji attributed the effectiveness of the agency in responding to emergencies to his administration’s significant investment in firefighting equipment and efforts to revamp the agency.

According to him, the agency has undergone substantial transformation under his administration, with staff undergoing rigorous training programmes to enhance their capacity.

“Additionally, fire trucks have been deployed across senatorial districts in the state, ensuring swift response and effectiveness during emergencies,” the governor said.

In response, Oluwasola expressed his deepest gratitude for the governor’s visit and the support he and his team received from the state government.

He described the visit as a morale booster and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the state.

The firefighter added that the incident had strengthened his resolve to protect lives and properties.
