Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has emphasised the vital role of technical expertise, moral courage, and integrity in enforcing the rule of law. Speaking as the guest of honour at the 2024 Annual Law Week organised by the Gusau branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lawal highlighted the legal profession’s role in promoting justice, democracy, and accountability.

During the event, the NBA recognised Governor Lawal with an award for his enduring legacy and impact on the people of Zamfara State. The award was presented by the NBA Chairman, Mu’azu Shehu Ahmad.

In his remarks, Lawal described the event’s theme, Upholding the Rule of Law: A Tool for Democratic Development, as timely and relevant. He noted that strengthening democracy requires unwavering commitment to principles of equity, justice, and accountability.

“Your dedication to this noble cause is truly commendable and worthy of emulation,” he remarked. “I urge you to continue upholding the highest ethical standards of the legal profession to ensure that you remain a beacon of hope for the common man and all those seeking justice.”

Lawal applauded the collaboration between the Bar and the Bench in ensuring justice is dispensed impartially and promptly, even amidst challenges. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and addressing insecurity in Zamfara.

“The government of Zamfara State remains resolute in restoring peace and stability. We have been working tirelessly to address the root causes of insecurity and to create an environment where our people can live without fear,” he said.

The Governor also called on the legal profession to embrace continuous learning and innovation, leveraging events like the NBA Law Week to stay ahead in legal practice.

“The dynamic nature of law requires constant learning and adaptation. I urge you to leverage opportunities for training and knowledge sharing, such as this Law Week event, to remain at the forefront of legal innovation and practice,” he added.

Expressing gratitude for the award, Lawal attributed the recognition to the collective efforts of his administration in combating insecurity and improving infrastructure. He described it as a testament to the shared determination to create a safer and more prosperous Zamfara State.

The event concluded with the Governor formally declaring the 2024 Law Week open, encouraging participants to engage in insightful deliberations for the advancement of justice and democracy.
