Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport on Wednesday cautioned Onitsha South Transport Company over unprofessional driving by its drivers.
The committee gave the warning when the company honoured the petition of concerned citizens of the state over reckless driving by the drivers of the company which resulted in accidents.
Reading out the content of the petition during the hearing at the Assembly Chamber in Abakaliki, the Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Ununu, said that it was alleged that the drivers at the company may be inexperienced or driving recklessly with unkept buses thereby exposing their passengers into dangers of unexpected occurrences.
He explained that the hearing was necessitated by the yearnings of the petitioners to know the reasons for the causes of the accidents on the particular road and how to proffer solutions to them.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee and member representing Afikpo North East Constituency Hon Oluchukwu Ukie Ezeali said apart from that the petition came from his own Constituency, the frequency of fatalities on the road calls for urgent attention insisting that the House must investigate the route causes of these accidents.
He, however, noted that the unwarranted anxiety on the part of the drivers could be the cause of those accidents.
Responding, the Administrative Manager of Onitsha South Transport Company, Martin Mgbodika, maintained that the company takes good care of their vehicles and follows procedures of the Federal Road Safety Corps in recruiting their drivers.
He apologized for the ugly incident that took the lives of some people, adding that the company will look further into ways of operating on the road to be safer.
