Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun state, is to graduate 9,556 students from five academic sessions at its 20th anniversary and fourth combined convocation ceremony.

The graduands comprise 7,419 National Diploma (ND) recipients and 2,137 Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates from the 2021-22 to 2025-26 academic sessions.

The rector, Mobolaji Agbolade Onasanya, disclosed ahead of the ceremony, scheduled for Thursday 15 October 2026.

Onasanya said the event would celebrate the students’ academic achievements and provide an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s contributions to technical and vocational education, skills development and manpower training over the past two decades.

The anniversary programme will include a rally, an exhibition, a dinner and awards night, and the main convocation ceremony. Government officials, traditional rulers, alumni, parents, industry representatives and members of the polytechnic community are expected to attend.

The wife of the Ogun state governor, Bamidele Abiodun, is among those expected to receive awards at the celebration, the rector said.

Onasanya noted that part of the institution’s achievement is the completion of several infrastructure projects, including the School of Environmental Technology building, a twin science laboratory and four-in-one engineering laboratories serving computer engineering and electrical and electronic engineering.
He said the Chief Abayomi Adeyemi Auditorium had undergone major renovation, while administrative offices and other academic facilities had also been upgraded to improve teaching, learning and institutional administration.

The rector said 15 new programmes had received accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education, while 11 members of staff had earned doctoral degrees, strengthening the institution’s academic capacity.

He added that improvements had been made to staff welfare, student accommodation, healthcare, security and digital services. The polytechnic’s information and communication technology centre now operates as a computer-based test centre accredited by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, he said.
Onasanya also cited the institution’s sporting achievements, including its victory in the men’s football competition at the 2026 Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the polytechnic plans to commission some completed infrastructure projects and hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its proposed School of Communications Complex.
However, the rector identified inadequate infrastructure, insufficient student accommodation, unreliable electricity, poor road access and limited funding as continuing challenges.

He appealed to the Ogun state government to review the institution’s monthly subvention in response to rising operational costs. He also called for a fair rotational arrangement for Tertiary Education Trust Fund interventions among state-owned tertiary institutions.
Onasanya said the polytechnic needed a properly equipped ambulance for its health centre and further investment in the development of its main campus.

He thanked the Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun, the governing council, staff, students, alumni, parents and other stakeholders for their contributions to the institution’s development.
The rector said the anniversary and convocation offered an opportunity to build on the polytechnic’s achievements and strengthen its commitment to producing skilled, innovative and industry-ready graduates.

The ceremony is expected to bring together dignitaries, education stakeholders, graduands and their families to mark the institution’s 20-year history and celebrate the achievements of the graduating students.
