Lagos task force arrests hit-and-run driver after knocking down commuter

Personnel of the Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Miscellaneous Offences yesterday arrested a hit-and-run driver, Dauda Bello, who violently knocked down a female commuter, Oluwole Bukola, along a busy road.

The incident, which occurred near the task force’s operation site, saw Bello, reportedly speeding, lose control of his vehicle and hit Bukola, who sustained severe injuries.

Task force spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, confirmed the arrest in a statement. He disclosed that the operatives, upon witnessing the accident and Bello’s attempt to flee, immediately pursued and apprehended him. Bukola was promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

“The Lagos State Task Force has apprehended a hit-and-run driver, identified as Dauda Bello, a resident of Adebayo Street, Oshodi, for reckless driving. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by overspeeding and reckless driving,” Abdulraheem stated.

The Lagos State Task Force Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, condemned the incident, urging motorists to prioritise road safety.

“I urge all road users to exercise caution and be considerate of others while driving. Driving is not a race to a destination but a responsibility that requires patience and focus at all times,” Akerele said.

He further revealed that Bello is in custody and will face charges in line with Lagos State laws. Akerele reassured residents of the agency’s commitment to maintaining law, order, and road safety while promoting accountability among motorists.
