One person was confirmed dead, and five others sustained injuries in an auto crash on February 1, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m. near Redemption Camp along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, Mowe.

Spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday, adding that the Sagamu Divisional Police headquarters reported the development.

The accident involved a Mack 40-ft container truck with registration number T-24572 LA, driven by Mr Sanni Saifullahi of AY and Rolly’s Ventures, Magodo, Lagos, and a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number FST 525 YJ, driven by Mr Sunday Okpe of Miracle Ultima International Ltd.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Toyota Sienna, which was en route from Osun State to Lagos with seven passengers, lost control and crashed into the rear of the container truck. The impact claimed the life of a front-seat passenger, Ms Miracle Chibuzor of Miracle Ultima International Ltd, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured passengers were promptly transported to Famobis Hospital, Lotto, Mowe, by motor traffic police for medical attention. The deceased’s body has been evacuated to Idera Morgue for an autopsy and official death certification.

Traffic police also cleared the scene to prevent further accidents and removed the wreckage of the vehicles to the Sagamu Police Station for inspection by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).
IN a separate incident, another fatal crash occurred earlier the same day at about 8:10 a.m. in the Ile-Oba area along the Ogijo/Ita-Oluwo/Ikorodu Road.

The accident involved a TVS tricycle with licence plate number Lagos BDG 561QN, driven by 21-year-old Usman Abdullahi, and a female pedestrian whose identity remains unknown.

According to preliminary reports, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when the tricycle, en route to the Ogijo main park, struck her. She sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Omowunmi Hospital in Kusela, Ogijo, but tragically succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.

Police officers, who were first responders at the scene, secured the area, conducted measurements, and gathered photographic evidence. The tricycle has been impounded at the police station for further inspection by VIOs, while the driver remains in custody as investigations continue.

Odutola stated that the deceased’s body would be transferred to the morgue for preservation and an autopsy.
