The race for the Anambra governorship seat has taken an exciting turn as High Chief Johnbosco Onunkwo, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former governorship aspirant, declared his intention to vie for the top seat in the state. The declaration was made during a gathering of party officials and stakeholders from Anambra South Senatorial District and Aguata Local Government.

An engineer by profession, Onunkwo used his declaration speech to highlight his long-standing contributions to the APC at the ward, local government, zonal, and state levels. He presented himself as an exemplary leader with a proven track record of positively impacting the lives of many in Anambra State and beyond. Emphasising his vision for comprehensive development, he asserted that his engineering acumen equips him with the unique ability to tackle the state’s insecurity challenges effectively.

In his address, Onunkwo urged party faithful, leaders, and stakeholders to support his candidacy, citing his qualifications, grassroots reach, and unwavering passion for the welfare of Anambra. “I am committed to the comprehensive development of Anambra and its people. I have the capacity and the vision to address our challenges, and I implore you to consider these qualities as you decide your candidate,” he declared.

The support for Onunkwo was evident at the event, which was well attended by representatives from all 20 wards of Aguata Local Government, as well as the 27 local government executives led by Hon Godson Anyadike, and six local government chairmen from Anambra South. The gathering also included the zonal executives of Anambra South, led by Hon Izuchukwu Okeke, and members of the state executive team from the zone, headed by State Secretary Mazi Engr Chidi Orji.

The APC Chairman for Umuchu Ward, speaking passionately on behalf of the party, urged the people of Anambra South Senatorial Zone to rally behind Onunkwo, describing him as not only a seasoned professional but also a compassionate leader with extensive local and international exposure. A prominent party stakeholder remarked, “One must have a clear vision and the capacity to lead. Of all the aspirants, Engr Johnbosco Onunkwo is undoubtedly the most competent and acceptable candidate for the APC.”

Both the Aguata Local Government Chairman, Chief Anyadike, and the Zonal Chairman, Hon Izuchukwu Okeke, expressed their gratitude to Onunkwo for his continuous efforts and positive contributions to the party. They assured him of unwavering support from their offices and the wider party membership as he embarks on his journey to transform Anambra State.

Johnbosco Onunkwo’s declaration marks a significant milestone in the Anambra APC primaries and sets the stage for a competitive race for the governorship, with his blend of technical expertise and visionary leadership resonating with many within the party.
