Niger State has achieved a significant milestone by being recognized as the top performer in fund disbursement for 2024, outshining six other states in Nigeria.
This recognition comes from the 8th Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) implementation support mission, with the World Bank announcing the rankings on February 3 in Abuja.
Under the leadership of His Excellency, the Farmer Governor, Dr. Mohammed Umar Bago, Niger State not only led in fund disbursement but also earned the title of “Overall Best in NIRTIMS (2024)” among its peers.
Amb. Nmaa Ahmed, PhD, the Director General of RAAMP in Niger State, emphasized that this award reflects the state’s dedication to improving rural infrastructure. He noted, “The funding has visibly impacted rural road development across the three senatorial zones. The governor’s new Niger agenda focuses on agriculture, enhancing access to communities and farmlands.”
He further pointed out that last year’s harvest was successfully delivered to silos and storage facilities, aided by the newly built rural roads. Recently, Gov. Umar Bago approved over 900 million Naira in counterpart funding to improve rural roads and market accessibility.
Amb. Nmaa highlighted that more than 300 kilometers of rural roads are currently under construction, alongside important infrastructure such as culverts and drainage. Additionally, over 70 kilometers of roads have been completed in the past 18 months.
The Director General also congratulated the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Hon. Phalal Bako Mohammed, and the state project coordinator, Engr. Ibrahim Dada, along with all Niger RAAMP staff for their unwavering dedication and outstanding service.
This recognition reinforces Niger State’s commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure, promoting agricultural productivity, and improving living conditions for its residents.
