According to a statement, the unveiling held on February 1, 2025, at the Residence Inn Greenbelt by Marriott in Greenbelt, U.S., marked a significant milestone for the institute.

It stated that the inauguration of the CITN District Society would also serve as a regional hub for CITN members in the United States of America and Canada.

At the event, President and Chairman of Council, CITN, Samuel Agbeluyi swore in the pioneer District Chairman, Paul Akioyamen, and other executives.

He said the introduction of the new district hinges on the institute’s continuous efforts to enhance accessibility and provide local support to members of the diaspora.

This, he said was in furtherance of the vision of the institute to be one of the foremost professional associations in Africa and beyond.

According to him, with the growing demand for tax professionalism across borders, it is important to ensure that members have a reliable local platform for networking, knowledge-sharing, and career advancement opportunities in their stations, among other benefits.

The event also included a lecture titled ‘Migration and the Tax Profession’, which was delivered by the institute’s, Habeeb Fasuyi and Mike Onianwah, who presented a paper on ‘Examining the American and Canadian Tax Landscape – A Tax Practitioner’s Perspective’.

The Guardian further gathered that the establishment of the North America District was a strategic move by CITN to promote tax education and professional development in the region.

The statement added that as the institute continues to expand its global presence, the new district is expected to play a vital role in shaping the tax profession in North America.
