Man in court for attacking uncles with cutlass

A driver, Chibuike Oliagba, 24, who allegedly assaulted his uncles with a cutlass, on Wednesday, appeared before an Amawbia Chief Magistrates’ Court, Awka.

Oliagba, a native of Agbani Village, Nibo in Awka, is charged with assault and threatening violence.

The Prosecutor, Insp John Ogbonnaya told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 4, at Nibo in Awka.

Ogbonnaya said the defendant unlawfully assaulted his uncles – Christopher Oliagba and Michael Oliagba, with a cutlass causing them harm and threatening to kill them.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 258 and 120 of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Vol. II, Revised Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991, as amended.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.N. Ike, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000, with a surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 21, for hearing.
