Omolara Oluseun Juba: A global advocate for occupational safety and aged care
In a world where the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations are often overlooked, Omolara Oluseun Juba has emerged as a leading voice in occupational safety, health, and aged care. Her journey from a banking and finance graduate to a globally recognized expert in occupational safety and aged care is a testament to her unwavering commitment to creating safer, healthier environments for both caregivers and the elderly.
Omolara’s passion for occupational safety was ignited in 2015 during a visit to her husband’s workplace in Qatar, where she witnessed firsthand the critical importance of workplace safety. This experience led her to pursue professional training in occupational health and safety, eventually working as a Health and Safety Advisor for top companies in Qatar. However, it was during the COVID-19 pandemic that her focus shifted to the well-being of aged adults and caregivers, as she observed the devastating impact of the virus on these vulnerable groups.
Determined to make a difference, Omolara moved to the UK, where she earned a Master’s degree in Occupational Safety, Health, and Wellbeing in 2024. Her research focused on bridging the knowledge gap in aged care, particularly in the intersection of occupational health and caregiving strategies. Her scholarly contributions include over eight peer-reviewed research articles and a book chapter, which have been cited over 270 times worldwide. Her work has explored critical topics such as workplace safety programs, caregiver occupational health challenges, and the integration of mental health into occupational safety initiatives.
Beyond academia, Omolara has translated her research into action by founding the Adult Prime Safety Health and Wellbeing Foundation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving aged adult care and caregiver training in Nigeria. Through this foundation, she has trained hundreds of caregivers, implemented community programs, and spearheaded public awareness campaigns that have reshaped the discourse on aged care in Nigeria.
Her advocacy work has not gone unnoticed. Omolara has been featured in leading Nigerian media outlets, including a national daily where she authored an article titled Ensuring the Safety and Wellbeing of Aged Adults: A Call for Awareness and Understanding in Nigeria. She has also shared her insights on GLOW
FM Radio, further broadening public awareness on aged care and occupational safety.
Omolara’s contributions have earned her global recognition, including the prestigious Global Recognition Award in 2024 for her dedication to aged adult care and occupational safety. In January 2025, she was honored with the Best International Reviewer Award for her outstanding contributions to academic research and peer review. She serves as a judge for high-impact studies published in esteemed journals and holds editorial board positions in three reputable academic journals.
Reflecting on her mission, Omolara said, “The COVID-19 pandemic tragically exposed weaknesses in how we protect both caregivers and older adults who deserve safety and respect. My mission is to ensure no healthcare worker or caregiver risks their life to save others, and no elder is left vulnerable due to broken systems.”
Looking ahead, Omolara remains steadfast in her mission to enhance safety, health, and sustainability in aged care. She is actively working towards policy reforms aimed at improving aged care standards in Nigeria and globally. Through her groundbreaking research, innovative initiatives, and unwavering commitment to change, she continues to inspire professionals and organizations worldwide.
Omolara Oluseun Juba is not just a trailblazer in occupational safety and aged care; she is a beacon of hope for a future where caregiving is safe, dignified, and backed by policies that prioritize the well-being of all.
