IPAC demands arrest, prosecution of sacked Adamawa REC

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the sacked Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State, Yunusa Hudu-Ari, over his recent claims regarding the 2023 governorship election.

Addressing journalists in Yola, the State Chairman of IPAC, Bello Babajo, condemned Hudu-Ari’s statements, describing them as a deliberate attempt to undermine Nigeria’s judiciary and democratic institutions.

At a press briefing widely reported on February 10, the sacked REC alleged that Senator Aishatu Binani, and not Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was the rightful winner of the 2023 poll, despite the matter having been conclusively settled by the Supreme Court. IPAC criticised the former REC, labelling his remarks as contemptuous not only towards INEC, but also the nation’s judicial system.

The council accused him of attempting to misrepresent facts and create confusion, warning that such actions would not be tolerated. “Instead of hiding in shame, Hudu was bold enough to display a concocted election result, insisting that his attempted ‘WUJJA WUJJA’ move was right,” Babajo said.

The group reiterated that Hudu had used fraudulent means in an unsuccessful bid to manipulate the election results before going into hiding to evade justice.
