Maj.- Gen. Thomas Olatoye, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Nigerian Army, has reaffirmed commitment to collaboration against insecurity in Anambra.
Olatoye made the pledge at a visit to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday in Akwa .
He described his visit as an operational assessment of the division’s readiness and strategic initiatives.
“Our mission is to consolidate the existing peaceful environment.
” We are committed to working closely with ‘Agunaechemba’ to ensure security in the state.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Agunaechemba, a new vigilante architecture was inaugurated by Soludo on Jan. 18, to assist and complement efforts of Federal security forces, especially the police in Anambra.
While expressing confidence in Soludo’s leadership, Olatoye also commended the governor’s decisive actions on security.
The GOC who urged residents of the state to support government’s efforts in providing adequate security, emphasised the importance of non-kinetic approaches in maintaining peace in the state.
In his response, Soludo appreciated the Nigerian army for its unwavering commitment to the fight against insecurity.
He lauded the military’s role in reclaiming eight local government areas previously overran by non-state actors when he assumed office.
“The security of the people is our utmost priority, which is why our administration is advancing to the next phase of security reforms with the newly enacted “Homeland Security Laws”.
“We recognise the vital role of the military in maintaining peace and stability; and deeply appreciate their dedication.
“We are committed to strengthening security partnerships and continued collaboration with the Nigerian army to tackle crime and protect communities in Anambra,” he said.
