Ogun CP charges new constables on professionalism, warns against corruption

CP Lanre Ogunlowo

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Dr Lanre Ogunlowo, has charged newly enlisted police constables to uphold professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking at the State Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, where the recruits were addressed following their induction into active service, Ogunlowo highlighted the principles that must guide their conduct. The officers recently completed six months of basic police training.

The commissioner emphasised the importance of protecting fundamental human rights, urging the constables to prioritise fairness, justice, and respect for citizens in their duties. He reminded them that the police exist to serve the public and must act with integrity and accountability.

Ogunlowo instructed the officers to adhere strictly to the code of conduct and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and demonstrate competence, diligence, and responsibility in their roles.

He warned against corruption, including extortion and bribery, stressing that any officer found engaging in unethical practices would face severe disciplinary measures, including dismissal.

He further urged the recruits to familiarise themselves with the Police Act and Regulations and to maintain good conduct at all times, noting that their behaviour would significantly shape public perception of the force.

To address security challenges in the state, the newly inducted constables have been deployed to various Divisional Police Headquarters. Ogunlowo directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to mentor the recruits and monitor their activities closely, warning that DPOs would be held accountable for any misconduct by the new officers.

The commissioner expressed the command’s commitment to building a professional, disciplined, and people-oriented police force, stating that the new constables’ deployment aims to tackle manpower shortages and strengthen security in their respective areas of responsibility.
