They stated that some areas within the GRA before now had no parking zone instructions but after a number of roads were reconstructed by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration some of the spaces and area with no parking signs now have toll parking signs.
Surprisingly, the complainants said rather than remove the old signs when mounting the new ones, the Lagos State Parking Authority left both signs at the sites leaving motorists confused about which to obey.
For instance, on Oduduwa Road where the liaison offices of Ogun and Oyo states are located in Ikeja GRA, two signs were mounted close to each other. One said no parking zone while the other said toll paying parking zone. While the no parking zone sign looks old, the toll parking spot board looks it was recently mounted.
When The Guardian contacted the Public Affairs Officer of the Lagos State Parking Authority, Eniola Dabiri, he asked that evidence be shared with him, which was complied with. A photo showing two signs within a location saying that a space is no parking spot and another sign saying it is a toll parking spot was shared with him. As a result, he promised to check and revert.
When he got back, he explained that the old sign boards were mounted by the parking agency but when a number of the GRA roads were reconstructed and expanded, parking spaces were created on some of the roads, with new tolling parking signs erected. He disclosed that there is an ongoing discussion between his agency, the ministries of works, transport and the residents over some issues about the new parking spaces created within the GRA. He said it is why one of the sign boards had not been removed in many of the spots where there are conflicting parking signs. He added that once a resolution is reached with the residents association, one of the sign boards will be removed in all the locations with conflicting notices.
