Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has responded to critics questioning his stance on the ongoing political tension in Osun State.
The singer, who has been vocal about the crisis, dismissed suggestions that his friendship with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, could be a solution to the issue.
The crisis, which erupted over the removal of All Progressives Congress (APC)-backed local government chairmen, took a violent turn as they attempted to reclaim their positions despite being sacked by the court.
Davido, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is at the center of the battle, had earlier called out the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Abba, for allegedly failing to maintain order.
Over the weekend, the issue escalated when Governor Adeleke urged President Tinubu to call his minister, Gboyega Oyetola, to order, accusing him of using security operatives to forcefully reinstate the sacked officials.
By Monday, chaos broke out in several local government secretariats as gunshots rang out when the dismissed chairmen and their supporters clashed with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members resisting their return.
Amidst this turmoil, an X.com user, @theadeoflondon, criticized Davido for his comments against the police chief, suggesting that he should instead contact his friend, Seyi Tinubu, for intervention. The user wrote, “He has ST at his disposal, he should be making more calls instead of coming on the TL to threaten a whole commissioner of police.”
Davido wasted no time in responding, shutting down the suggestion with a fiery clapback.
He wrote, “Nothing he will do! He is my friend! And nothing more! His dad is the democratically elected president, my uncle is the democratically elected governor.”
This response has sparked further reactions online, with many divided over whether Davido should leverage his connections or stay out of the political fray.
However, the ‘Timeless’ crooner has made it clear—his loyalty lies with his family, and he has no expectations from Seyi Tinubu in the Osun crisis.
