Charity brings Valentine’s Day cheer at Onitsha Correctional Centre

The Faithspiration Initiative, a Christian charity, has marked Valentine’s Day by visiting inmates at Onitsha Correctional Centre. The organisation brought essential items and messages of hope and joy to the prison.

Less than a month after a similar outreach programme in Awka-Etiti, Anambra State, the group, led by founder Very Rev. Fr. Dr. George Adimike, continued its mission of evangelism through spiritual and material support.

Speaking at the event, Fr. Adimike described the Faithspiration Initiative as a Christian organisation dedicated to sharing God’s love. He noted that Valentine’s Day coincides with the feast of Saints Cyril, Methodius, and Valentine, with St. Valentine remembered for his life of love and sacrifice.

“We are here because of you,” Adimike told the inmates. “You are part of us. Your time in this correctional centre is temporary. It doesn’t mean God has abandoned you. He loves and cares for you, and there is still hope.” He prayed for their swift release and urged them to remain steadfast in their faith.

He also thanked the prison management, including the Controller, Chaplain Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Okpalugo, and their spiritual advisor, Very Rev. Sis. Bennett Ezeokoli, for facilitating the visit.

Okpalugo expressed his gratitude to the Faithspiration Initiative, saying their kindness exemplified Christ’s teachings on love and compassion. He praised Adimike’s commitment to supporting prisoners and prayed for the organisation’s continued success.

The inmates were delighted, enjoying gospel music from singer Chioma Ezefete and comedy from Igwe White. The Faithspiration Initiative donated cooked meals, tissues, detergents, laundry soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and bottled water, among other necessities. The Valentine’s Day visit made a significant impact, reinforcing the message that love, faith, and hope endure, even within prison walls.
