Youth inclusion, innovation key to Nigeria’s energy future – Reps aide

Chibuike Emmanuel E., Special Assistant on Energy to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has called for greater youth inclusion and innovation in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Speaking at the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2025 in Abuja, Hon. Chibuike stressed the importance of these factors in shaping the sector’s sustainable future and driving Africa’s industrial and economic transformation.
He urged energy stakeholders to develop innovative strategies to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint while ensuring sustainable energy growth.
He specifically lauded NNPC Ltd. and First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company Ltd. for achieving a 96 per cent reduction in routine flaring of associated gas (AG) from the Anyala (OML 83) and Madu (OML 85) fields.
“This remarkable feat is a testament to the positive strides we are making toward environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in Nigeria. It also highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving our national energy objectives,” Hon. Chibuike stated.
Chibuike stressed the need for a more youth-inclusive approach, stating that the next generation must be actively involved in decision-making and innovation.
“Nigeria’s energy future lies in the hands of young, dynamic minds. We must create platforms that encourage their participation in energy policies, research, and development,” he added.
He also relayed the support of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen, who he said is passionate about maximising Nigeria’s energy potential.
“The Speaker strongly believes in leveraging legislative support to drive investments, innovation, and sustainable practices in the energy sector,” Chibuike affirmed.
Chibuike reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for sustainable energy growth, youth empowerment, and global partnerships during the NIES 2025.
He stressed the goal of securing Nigeria’s leadership position in Africa’s evolving energy landscape.
