
In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), GTCO has launched the “Waste for Gas” project to improve the quality of life of low-income households and empower women in underserved communities in Obafemi Owode Local Council of Ogun State.
However, 3,000 gas cylinders were distributed. Director, Administration & Supply, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Odeyinka Temitayo, who represented Governor Dapo Abiodun, described the gesture as laudable. He said that the governor had embarked on various programmes to rid the environment of pollution.
Meanwhile, Chief Communication Officer, GTCO Plc., Oyinade Adegite, said that GTCO is committed to improving community well-being by providing access to clean and efficient cooking solutions, adding that the bank also incorporates a structured waste-for-gas exchange programme, and encouraging responsible waste disposal.
Chairman of the council, Ogunsola ‘Lanre, said it is the first time a bank would reach out to the council.He, however, encouraged the bank to establish a branch in the council area.
The Olu of Owode-Egba, Oba Kolawole Aremu Sowemimo, however warned the people against selling the gas cookers, saying: “We are going to create gas stations where people can refill at discounted prices.” The Iyaloja-General, Ganiyat Oyelakin, said the beneficiaries must exercise caution while using the gas cookers to forestall accidents.
