Adeleke, UNIOSUN VC charge medical graduates on service, research

Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke and the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo, Professor Clement Adebooye, have charged the newly inducted medical graduates of the institution on service to humanity and researches capable of breaking new grounds in global medicine.

The duo gave the charge on Wednesday during the maiden induction ceremony of 90 medical graduates of medicine and surgery into Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) at the main campus of the institution.

Adeleke, who lauded the management of of the institution, particularly the VC, Governing Council, including Provost, members of College of Health Sciences and academic staff, charged the inductees to treat patients with dignity, compassion and empathy.

Represented by the state Commissioner of Education, Dipo Eleyele, the governor said “I want a you to remember that medicine is more than a profession, it is a service to humanity, it is a calling. The white coat you wear carries with it a responsibility. The life of a person is in your hands.

“You will encounter people at some of the most vulnerable moments of their live. Some will come to you in pain. Some will come frightened. Some will come with little or no financial capacity. Others will simply need somebody to listen to them.”

In his remark, the VC, Professor Adebooye, while chronicling his landmark achievements since his appointment, commended the Adeleke who is the Visitor of the institution, immediate past Governing Council, led by Mallam Yusuf Alli SAN and the current Council, headed by Professor Wale Oladipo, for their support and inspiration.

He charged the medical graduates on clinical competence, empathy, professional ethics and emotional stability, which he said were germane to their service to humanity.

Adebooye also emphasised that “Nigeria’s health care is bleeding, millions of your compatriots lack basic medical care, and the very nation that forged your resilience through thick and thin now looks to you for its survival.

“As you weigh your path, let your decisions be tempered not just by personal ambition, but by a sense of patriotic duty, professional conscience, and the profound impact you can make right here,” the VC stated.
