Cornel’s single, Promise, sparks frenzy online
Singer and musical entrepreneur, Cornelius Ogar, popularly known in the showbiz world as Cornel, has sparked frenzy online with the release of his brand-new single, Promise. The song’s accompanying music video, which was shot on location in Johannesburg, South Africa, has already generated immense buzz with fans clamouring for a full-length album.
Co-written and produced by the legendary Cobhams Asuquo, the video was released on Valentine’s Day of 2025.
Speaking on the song, the 2006 StarQuest winner with D’Accord, and runner-up in ‘The Voice Nigeria’, said: “It is a celebration of a perfect union by two imperfect people, who have sworn to love each other unconditionally and celebrate genuine friendship that will last a lifetime.”
The actor-cum-model from Cross River State uses his pure tenor vocals to speak the hearts and minds of lovebirds all over the world. He added that the blend of talking drums and other African instruments makes the Afro-pop song stand out.
Music seems to run in his family, as Sonofuche, his younger sibling that sang in his band, De Nu Generation, who is now a US Army officer, who has refused to let music be, recently released a single, Big Bigger Biggest.
A graduate of Creative Art from the University of Lagos, Cornel has done vocal and choir arrangements for notable musical artistes including Patoranking’s 2019 Wilmer album. As an actor, he has featured in the TV series Tinsel and The Damned.
He has also played prominent roles in the following musicals: Mamamia, Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Promise, Jesus Christ Superstar and many more.
The experienced vocal and choir trainer made his debut in December 2016 with the release of his solo single Smile Again. He followed with a Christmas song entitled Africa/Naija Christmas and No Lies in 2022
