The roar of eight lJetour SUVs echoed across Lagos’ rugged coastal trails last Saturday as the Chinese automotive brand pushed its adventure credentials to the limit, but the biggest statement of the expedition came not from the vehicles, but from a solar-powered borehole delivered to the people of Iwerekun Orile, Ibeju Lekki.

 

The 2026 Jetour Africa Expedition, which began with a convoy drive from Falomo Square, Ikoyi, combined off-road thrills, vehicle capability and community engagement, taking the brand’s growing SUV line-up from Lagos’ urban roads to challenging stretches of the Coastal Highway.

The expedition featured the Jetour Dashing, X50, X70 Plus, X90 Plus, T2, T2 PHEV, X70 PHEV and the flagship G700.

The convoy departed Falomo Square after a road safety briefing by the Federal Road Safety Corps and proceeded through Victoria Island before heading towards the coastal corridor.

Supported by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the convoy soon left the familiar asphalt for a demanding combination of swampy sections, rocky surfaces and uneven trails.

For the SUVs, the challenging route became a real-world demonstration of their capability, endurance and ability to tackle terrain far removed from conventional city driving.

But beyond the horsepower, technology and off-road spectacle, the expedition acquired a more significant dimension when the convoy arrived at the Roman Catholic Mission Primary School in Iwerekun Orile.

There, Jetour Nigeria commissioned a solar-powered borehole designed to provide clean and reliable water for the school and surrounding community.

The gesture transformed what had started as an automotive adventure into a community-focused intervention, attracting schoolchildren, traditional leaders, farmers and market women who welcomed the Jetour team with cultural performances.

The company also distributed food items to households, while pupils received books and refreshments.

A representative of Jetour Nigeria, Kemi Adeola, said the initiative reflected the company’s desire to make its activities meaningful beyond the automotive market.

“This is where adventure meets purpose. Our mission doesn’t stop at building capable vehicles; it lives in our pledge to drive tangible progress and touch the hearts of the communities we reach,” Adeola said.

The traditional ruler of Iwerekun Orile, High Chief Michael Oluwa, described the water project as an unprecedented development in the history of the community.

He pledged that residents would take responsibility for protecting and maintaining the facility.

For the Head Teacher of the school, Ariyike Bakre, the intervention could have a lasting impact on the pupils and the wider community.

“This is my first time seeing a solar-powered borehole,” Bakre said, describing the project as a lifetime gift to the school and community.

She expressed appreciation to Jetour for bringing the initiative to Iwerekun Orile.

Following the demanding drive and community engagement, the expedition ended at a beach lounge, where participants relaxed with food, music and entertainment.

The Jetour expedition thus offered a blend of automotive adventure and social impact — putting its SUVs through demanding coastal terrain while leaving behind a practical community asset.
