Nigerians under the umbrella body of Diaspora Engagement, organizers of New Nigeria Project/Obidient Movement, have underscored the role of the Nigerian Diaspora in shaping Nigeria’s future.

In a statement signed Friday by its Directors, Dr. David Ogula and Bolanle Emiabata-Anibaba, the group recalled that during the last election cycle, Nigerians abroad played a pivotal role in supporting the Obidient Movement, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to a better Nigeria.

“However, as we navigate a period outside the official political season, many may wonder what role the Diaspora should play in the ongoing struggle for national transformation. The answer is clear, the fight to salvage Nigeria is not seasonal just as corruption, insecurity and governance failures are not seasonal.

“The challenges that have long plagued our nation, corruption, political malfeasance, subversion of rule of law, lack of accountability and poor leadership persist daily, affecting the lives of millions.

Tolerating these dysfunctions is akin to living with a curable disease while refusing treatment.”

The group added that as Nigerians in the Diaspora, “We are in a vantage position to drive change. We must not be passive bystanders. Instead, we must organize, define strategic goals and forge partnerships with individuals and institutions in Nigeria that align with our vision for a just and prosperous nation.

“It is time for the Diaspora to mobilize, advocate and contribute to nation-building by modeling the governance standards, transparency and accountability we have experienced in our adopted countries. With unwavering faith, deliberate action and a deep love for our homeland, we can chart a path towards the Nigeria we all desire.

“A new and prosperous Nigeria is possible, and it starts with us.”
