Trader jailed nine months for stealing foodstuff

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 23-year-old trader, Joseph Peter to nine months imprisonment for stealing foodstuff and agas cooker from his neighbour’s house.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Peter after he pleaded guilty to breaking and entry and theft.
Bokkos in her judgment, however,gave the convict an option to pay N20,000 as fine.

The magistrate also ordered the convict to pay N130,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo-Jos Police Station on Jan.11 by Mr. Ngumut Jacob, the complainant.
Thiawur said the convict also stole cloths, a laptop and cellphone.
The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under the Plateau Penal Code Law.
