Pinnick loses FIFA council seat by one vote

Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, narrowly missed re-election to the FIFA Council, losing by a single vote during the 14th CAF Extraordinary Congress in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.

Pinnick secured 28 votes, falling short of the 29 votes won by Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania) and Souleman Hassan Waberi (Djibouti), who claimed the final seats.

Morocco’s Fouzi Lekjaa emerged as the top scorer with 49 votes, while Egypt’s Hany Abou Rida and Niger Republic’s Djibrilla Hima Hamidou secured 35 votes each, ensuring their places on the council.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe was re-elected unopposed, and Kanizat Ibrahim from Comoros won the women’s seat with 30 votes.

Meanwhile, elections for the CAF Executive Committee saw Sobha Mohamed Ally Samir (Mauritius) and Feizal Ismael Sidat (Mozambique) claim the COSAFA seats, while Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Wallace Karia (Tanzania), and Mustapha Ishola Raji (Liberia) retained their positions.
