The Lagos State Council of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has launched an investigation into a disturbing incident where an InDrive driver allegedly robbed and stabbed a female rider, Akusionwu Ogechukwu Pascaline.
Speaking on the matter, the Lagos State Chairman of AUATON, Jaiyesimi Azeez, confirmed that the union has engaged with the Department of State Services (DSS), the police, and the Lagos State government to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.
Azeez visited the victim to offer support and reassurance. AUATON has also reported the incident to InDrive, urging the company to strengthen its driver vetting processes.
He emphasised that the union’s database of driver profiles could help enhance security and accountability within the industry.
The chairman stressed the need for improved rider profiling, noting that better security measures are necessary to protect both drivers and passengers.
He assured the public that AUATON is committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to enhance safety within the app-based transport sector and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
