The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation on Saturday commissioned a newly constructed borehole at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Kubwa, Abuja, as part of efforts to improve access to clean water and sanitation.

Performing the commissioning, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring reliable water supply across Nigeria.

The event coincided with the 2025 World Water Day celebrations and was attended by key stakeholders who contributed to the project’s success.

Utsev underscored the urgency of sustainable water management and urged Nigerians to take active steps in protecting water resources.

“This facility is not just about providing water; it represents our collective responsibility towards climate resilience and sustainable development,” he stated.

The minister explained that the borehole project was made possible through collaboration between local community leaders, development agencies, and technical experts, all working towards improving access to clean water. Their combined efforts, he noted, reflect a shared vision for equitable access to safe water—an essential human right and a driver of public health and economic growth.

With the commissioning, residents of the beneficiary community now have a reliable source of clean water, reducing dependence on unsafe alternatives and mitigating waterborne diseases.

In his remarks, the representative of the NYSC Director-General, Brig. Gen. Olukunle Oluseye Nafiu, Deputy Director of Planning and Research, Alhaji Jimkashi Ahmad Abdullah, pledged the NYSC’s commitment to ensuring the facility is well-maintained.

He expressed gratitude to the ministry and called on the community to take ownership of the project for its long-term sustainability.
