In a bid to combat the circulation of inferior pharmaceutical products in Nigeria, Emzor Pharmaceutical Industry has introduced advanced track-and-trace software designed to identify and eliminate substandard drugs from the market.
It has also, as part of its commitment to consumer safety, adopted an end-to-end communication system across its supply chain, enhancing oversight and efficiency in drug distribution.
According to it, the track-and-trace software will strengthen market surveillance, ensuring that only authentic and high-quality medicines reach consumers, particularly in underserved areas.
Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Dr Stella Chinyelu Okoli, emphasised that Emzor was founded with a mission to serve the health needs of Nigerians, stressing that quality remains the core of its operations.
She said that through innovative technology and strategic interventions, the company is tackling the challenge of poor-quality medications flooding the African pharmaceutical sector.
Also, the Executive Director-General of the company, Uzoma Ezeoke, stressed the company’s intensified efforts in fighting counterfeit drugs, particularly in rural areas.
She noted that many of those involved in the distribution of fake drugs operate in secrecy, making it necessary for Emzor to enhance surveillance and transparency across the supply chain.
On his part, the Deputy Director of Finance, Tonee Enenmor, pointed out the economic factors affecting drug affordability, noting that foreign suppliers now require upfront payments, which has increased financial pressure on pharmaceutical companies.
He added that despite these challenges, Emzor is actively exploring pharmaceutical exportation, which is expected to contribute to Nigeria’s economy while ensuring that high-quality medications remain accessible.
