The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has lifted the 10-year promotion embargo on staff of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic (formerly Abia Polytechnic), Aba, imposed by the previous administration.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku, disclosed this in a statement issued in Umuahia on Tuesday.

According to Njoku, Governor Otti also approved the release of all accumulated promotions for staff of the institution.

He added that the governor further abolished the “National Promotions” practice in the polytechnic.

“The polytechnic staff appreciated the governor for living up to his promise of defraying the 33 months’ salary arrears owed them by the immediate past administration,” Njoku said.

“They also thanked him for implementing the regular payment of their salaries as and when due, and for putting infrastructure and measures in place to upgrade the standard of the institution,” he added.

The announcement is part of Governor Otti’s broader effort to address staff welfare and improve educational standards in the state.
