Group to mobilise voters for APC candidate in Anambra 2025

The All Progressives Congress (APC)

A non-sectional political group, Anambra Equity Movement (A.N.E.M), has unveiled an innovative initiative to mobilise voters in Anambra State to support a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party, or any other political party other than the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in the state.

This clarion call, according to Hon. Tony Uche Ezekwelu, the convener of the group, was aimed at fostering equity, balance, fairness, and brotherly love.

Ezekwelu said they were mobilising for a capable candidate, especially from the APC, to enable Anambra State to experience governance under a new political party, having already experienced the governance models of the PDP and APGA since the return of democracy in 1999.

He therefore urged the APC to zone its governorship ticket to Anambra South Senatorial Zone and further micro-zone it to the old Nnewi Division, comprising Nnewi South, Nnewi North, and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas of the state.

The convener, who was flanked by key figures in the group, including a former Orumba South Council chairman, Chief Nestor Okoro, addressed journalists at the end of their meeting. While listing the key points of their resolutions, he observed that since the inception of democracy in Nigeria, the old Nnewi Division area has never produced an Anambra governor.

The movement, the convener/chairman disclosed, is a coalition of socio-political and religious pressure groups, civil societies, and non-governmental organisations committed to bringing justice, equity, and fairness in the distribution of elective and appointive political offices in Anambra State and the nation generally.

They canvassed for what they referred to as “a practical politician,” not imported elements who were usually foisted on the state after the job was done. He admitted that such governors, as seen with the incumbent and his predecessor, would continue to struggle until their tenure ran out.

“Imagine being asked to go to the internet to apply for jobs, appointments, or contracts.

“Has that now made any positive difference at all?”

The resolutions read in part: “…This will ensure that all facets and classes of Anambrans are given a sense of belonging irrespective of geographical origin, religious belief/creed, profession/class, gender, education, and other classifications.

“The group is poised to assiduously employ every effective means of mobilisation and enlightenment to achieve our set goals, making Anambra truly the light of the nation.

“The movement resolved that the Anambra governorship, by geopolitical consideration, should remain in the South Senatorial Zone for the next four years. Within the South Senatorial Zone, it should be zoned to the Old Nnewi Division, comprising Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo LGAs; whereas Aguata/OAU have had over six (6) years with Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife and Prof. Charles Soludo, and Ihiala held the governorship for four (4) years under the late Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju—both divisions having held power for over ten (10) years to the exclusion of the Old Nnewi Division in Anambra South.

“That Catholic Christians, having dominated the governorship for 23 uninterrupted years, should, in the interest of equity and fairness, allow the next governor to be from non-Catholic groups, especially Anglicans/PFN among other CAN blocs.

“Also, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), having ruled for 20 years, and the PDP for seven (7) years, Anambra should try another political party. By all considerations, the best option for the next governorship is the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is the ruling party at the center, or any other viable party with a strong non-Catholic candidate.

“Our structure, under the able leadership of Ezekwelu as the convener/chairman of the movement, with Comrade Engr. Anthony Aniebuo as general secretary, together with the Central Working Committee, LG, and Ward executives, is fully in place, advocating and mobilizing massively towards achieving our set goals.

“We resolved to leave no stone unturned in achieving our set goal. Our adopted candidate, who meets all these criteria, should personally assure the members and all Ndi Anambra that they will be fully supported and carried along before, during, and after the gubernatorial primaries and election proper, as well as in government. The candidate must sign a pact/take a vow that he won’t discriminate against any denominations, groups, or individuals when he assumes the governorship on November 8, 2025.

“All this is to save the state from potential political and electoral violence that could arise from sustained political domination and intimidation.”
