Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has said that he’s safe in Abuja, contrary to claims by his wife, Florence, that he has been kidnapped.
In a video released on Saturday, Nwaeke said he travelled to Abuja to report himself to security agencies over developments in Rivers State.
He stated that his wife was reading a script and must have been misled to have made the claim that he was kidnapped.
“I am in TRANSCORP Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet security agencies and report myself, as well as the troubling events happening in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday because of these developments,” he said.
Dismissing his wife’s claims, he said, “I just saw a video of my wife trending. She was told I had been kidnapped and given a script to read. I want to make it clear—I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, working.
“When I was Head of Service, my wife was not involved in my official duties. That script she read is null and void. I am safe and sound. I will report myself to the appropriate security agencies.”
In an emotional interview, Florence expressed fears for her husband’s life, saying she didn’t know his whereabouts.
She admitted that he did travel to Abuja but stated that she began to panic after seeing an online interview he had which she found suspicious.
“I said, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband,” she recalled.
She shared her desperate attempts to contact him, saying, “I sent him a message: ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Talk to me now. Why are you not responding?’ But he didn’t reply. His numbers are not going through. Nigerians, help me!”
Her claims were made known after her husband alleged that suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, orchestrated the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2023 to prevent his impeachment.
He also alleged the role played by a former member of the assembly, Edison Ehie, saying he received a bag of money to carry out the attack on the assembly complex.
