Chairperson, the Advisory Board of Women in Maritime and Energy, Dr Chizoba Anyika, says the 4th Women in Maritime and Energy Awards is not just about recognition, but the celebration of resilience, innovation, and the undeniable impact of everyone in the industry.
In a keynote address delivered at the event, which was graced by industry leaders and remarkable, phenomenal women driving change in maritime and energy, Dr Anyika revealed that WIME’s goal is geared towards building stronger networks, creating more mentorship opportunities, and pushing for policies that truly support women in maritime and energy.
She added that the body is ready to work with organizations, industry leaders, and policymakers who are ready to take action, not just in words but in meaningful commitments. The Chairperson also charged everyone in attendance to build something bigger together, adding that the future is all about women taking up leadership roles.
“While tonight is about celebrating how far we’ve come, we are also looking ahead. We know that there is still so much work to be done. We are expanding, we are growing, and we are actively seeking more collaborators and partners who share our vision.
“Our goal is to build stronger networks, create more mentorship opportunities, and push for policies that truly support women in maritime and energy. We want to work with organizations, industry leaders, and policymakers who are ready to take action—not just in words, but in meaningful commitments.
“So, if you are here tonight and you believe in what we stand for, join us. Let’s build something bigger together. Because the future we are working toward is one where women are not just included, but leading,’’ she said.
She lauded the Advisory Committee for its relentless efforts, which led to three key courtesy visits to heads of top organisations to foster collaboration and ensure a successful hosting of the award.
“Over the past few days, we’ve had the privilege of three key courtesy visits, and each one reinforced a powerful truth: collaboration is the key to progress. These visits weren’t just formalities; they were reminders that when we work together, we create real opportunities for women to thrive.
“I also want to take a moment to deeply appreciate other members of the Advisory Board, (stand up for recognition, Mrs Abiola Soremekun, Vivian Chimezie-Azubuike, Oghogho Effiom, who is unavoidably absent, and Tunbosun Afolayan, our Executive Director and Femi Adesina, who supports us in Secretarial duties, your vision, dedication, and hard work behind the scenes have been instrumental in making this event and all our initiatives possible. Your unwavering commitment continues to shape the path forward for women in maritime and energy, and we do not take it for granted,’’ she noted
