The former Head of Service (HoS) in Rivers State, Dr. George Nwaeke, has reiterated his allegations that Governor Siminalayi Fubara was responsible for the bombing of the state’s Assembly complex.
Nwaeke, in a recent press briefing, expressed surprise that the governor did not deny the allegations, instead choosing to address other issues.
To buttress his allegations, Nwaeke posed a critical question, wondering why there has not been a panel of inquiry or police investigation into the bombing of the Assembly complex, which occurred over a year ago.
He emphasised that the lack of action from the state government raises suspicions and underscored his claim.
Nwaeke called on the Federal Government to establish an independent investigation team, stating that “the truth, which is known to every person in Port Harcourt, will now be made formal.”
He maintained that his initial statement stands as evidence and was confident that the facts will support his claims.
The former HoS also clarified that his allegations were based on personal conversations with Governor Fubara, specifically regarding a meeting with Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
He said, “I am surprised that the suspended governor did not debunk my allegation of him bringing down the Assembly Complex which is the subject matter; rather, he was talking about other issues.
“The big question is this, and I want you to reason: this is over one year that the Assembly was brought down yet no panel of inquiry was set up, and there has not been any report on that incident from the state government till date.
“Not even a police investigation. I call on the federal government to set up an independent investigation team. The truth which is known on the lips of every person in Port Harcourt will now be made formal.
“I was not there when he held a meeting with Bala Mohammed, I didn’t say I was there, everything I said was what he told me one one-on-one. My earlier statement stands as evidence to all that I have said.”
Meanwhile, in a recent press conference, the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Robinson Ewor, responded to the allegations made by Nwaeke and described him as “highly compromised” and a “serial betrayer” who has become a tool for Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to spread false information against Fubara.
Ewor claimed that Nwaeke’s allegations were part of a scripted campaign to discredit the governor, undermine the president’s confidence in him, and tarnish his reputation before the public.
He emphasised that Nwaeke’s actions were not taken under duress, but rather a deliberate attempt to deceive the public.
