The Abia Commissioner of Police, Mr Danladi Isa, has warned policemen in the state against taking cases to court without conducting thorough investigations.

This warning was issued in a statement by DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, in Umuahia on Friday.

The warning was given by Isa during a conference with officers at the Abia Police Command headquarters on Bende Road, Umuahia, as part of the National Police Day commemoration.

He said that a thorough investigation could help to unravel the truth in a case, and save innocent people from needless prosecution.

The CP urged officers to uphold the highest standards of service, reflecting the evolving modern Nigeria Police Force with international best practices.

He also encouraged routine stakeholders’ engagement and education of the public to combat rising cases of mob action.

Isa cautioned officers against abuse of power, unlawful detention of suspects, and charging cases to court without thorough investigation.

The CP emphasised the need for thoroughness in stop-and-search operations and urged officers to uphold professionalism, respect human rights, and adhere strictly to due process.

The meeting was attended by senior officers, including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Departments, and Tactical Team Commanders.

Part of the celebrations featured the Commissioner’s Honours Award to recently retired officers ACP Uduak Isaac and ACP Afokwalam Nneji, for their meritorious service to their fatherland.
