God has the authority and power to act and do beneficial things to all the human beings He created, as His representative, on earth. God’s actions are designed to favour His children who are obedient to His words; hence He does not allow His people to suffer. It is on this premise that He gave directive to man to call on Him in time of trouble, promising to deliver the victim so that His name would be glorified. In times of sickness, disappointment, lack, denials and, even in sudden death of the loved ones, not in line with His will, call upon Him. Present your need to Him, He will intervene for good results. This is in line with the report in Matthew 4:23-24, which says: “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. 24: And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.”
Sickness is not our portion, in God’s original plan for man in the Garden of Eden; there was no provision for sickness. When Adam was living under the will of God, there was never a report of sickness either of Adam, himself, or Eve, his wife. They were enjoying perfect health all year round. It was when he deviated from following God’s instructions and started listening to the devil that sin came with all its characteristics of death, sickness, afflictions from the devil, disappointment, poverty and all the attributes of the devil and his agents. The devil took over the centre stage and brought in all his evil afflictions to attack man, so, he can distance him from serving God and living his life in obedience to the will of God.
When Adam fell from God’s will and followed Satan, God promised the coming of a deliverer who will come to rescue man from the bondage of the devil. That deliverer has come in the person of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who has come to reclaim the kingdom lost to the devil. In effort to reclaim the lost kingdom, our Lord, Jesus Christ introduced the attributes of God present in the Garden of Eden and in heaven to bring a perfect society on earth. Where Christ was or is present, there is always the presence of the power of God to do all things — healing the sick, delivering people from poverty and the afflicted from the devil and all other evil things against God’s will.
In the lead scripture above, our Lord, Jesus Christ, was transparent enough to declare that all power in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. The power given to Him is for the benefit of all human beings who are living in obedience to the will of God. There is a clear example in Luke 5:17-20: “And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. 18: And, behold, men brought in a bed a man, which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. 19: And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. 20: And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, man, thy sins are forgiven thee.”
Our Lord, Jesus Christ, healed the man with the sickness of palsy dropped for him through the roof. As He saw their faith He healed the man by telling him his sins are forgiven. This is an indication that sickness comes as a result of sin. A sinless person may not suffer sickness because the glory of God will always cover him. Again, it should be noted that when Jesus saw the faith of the people that brought the sick man He did not waste time in pronouncing healing upon the man and he was eventually set free from the sickness. In the kingdom of God both in heaven and on earth, faith is the only currency with which to obtain favour and blessings from God.
The power of God to heal and do all good things for our benefit is always available to us, but we need the complete exercise of faith to access the things He has made to be within our reach. As a further prove of this assertion, Luke 6:17-18 notes: “And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; 18: And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.”
It is a clear exercise of faith for the multitude to be following Jesus Christ about to hear the message of good tidings and receive his word. God is ready at all times to attend to the needs of His people, but the people who will benefit from that power must have faith in God that He is able to do what they are expecting from Him. As you read this message, bear in mind the power of God is available for your benefits and that you can only have those good things from God when you have faith in Him.
At this l juncture, may I ask: “Have you reconciled yourself to God, to enable you be a partaker of His power? If the trumpet sounds now, are you ready? Please, I crave for your indulgence to surrender your life to Christ before it is too late.
Remember Heb 9v27 says: “At it is appointed unto men once to die and after that, the judgment.” The opportunity you have is now!
