Police foil robbery attempt in Abuja’s Royal Court Estate, arrest two suspects

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command thwarted a robbery attempt at Royal Court Estate in Jahi II, Abuja, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The operation also led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of firearms, stolen vehicles, and electronic gadgets.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, operatives of the Mabushi Division of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command responded swiftly to a distress call reporting an ongoing robbery at Royal Court Estate.

“The call came in at about 3:20 a.m., prompting officers to rush to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the officers were immediately engaged in a gunfight by the suspects. Despite the intense exchange of gunfire, the police overpowered the hoodlums with their superior firepower.

“The suspects, sustaining gunshot injuries, attempted to flee the scene, but a hot pursuit by the operatives led to the arrest of two individuals identified as Rabiu Jubril and Ibrahim Isa, both of whom reside in the Tipper Garage area of Jahi.”

According to the Police, items recovered from the suspects include two locally made firearms and three suspected stolen vehicles, a black Toyota Matrix with registration number NBS 348 CP, a black Toyota Venza with registration number ABJ 105 AV, and a grey Lexus IS350 bearing the number RSH 295 CB.

Additionally, police recovered a variety of electronic devices from the suspects.

“These include two MacBook Pro laptops, a Lenovo laptop, an iPad, a PS4 gaming console, a Canon IP1224 camera, and a drone camera,” she said.

“The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

Meanwhile, Ajao Adewale, Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP has urged residents to adopt proactive security measures, particularly by installing tracking devices in their vehicles.

He noted that such devices would improve the chances of recovery in cases of theft or armed robbery.
