Police arrest 61 for thuggery, armed robbery in Niger

The Niger State Police Command said it has arrested 61 suspects for thuggery and armed robbery in the state after the Sallah celebration.

The police said there has been a resurgence of thuggery and youth restiveness in the Minna metropolis.

Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement, disclosed that on 4th April 2025 at about 2:00 am, a sting operation led by Area Commander Minna within Angwan-Daji and its environs led to the arrest of 19 suspects with dangerous weapons.

He revealed that on 3rd April 2025 at about 2:30 am, another 23 suspects were arrested at a hotel within Tunga with shisha smoking apparatus and other illicit drugs and cannabis, adding that 13 others were arrested within the community with dangerous weapons.

Abiodun also said a similar arrest was made on Saturday, April 5 at about 11:30 pm at Barkin-Sale area of Minna.
He stressed that the Police received information that some miscreants were fomenting trouble, and Operation Flush moved in immediately, and six miscreants were arrested with a cutlass and a sharp knife.

Abiodun stated that all suspects are under investigation in SCID Minna, saying that monitoring and raids of criminal hideouts continues, while normalcy has been restored in the metropolis.
