The Chief of Staff to the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie has slammed a two Billion Naira defamatory suit against the immediate past Head of Service of Rivers State, George Nwaeke and Channels Television.

Ehie is asking the court presided over by Justice Stephen Jumbo to award the two billion naira a damage in his favour following a television wide broadcast done by Nwaeke through Channel Television on 29th of March which he said was done without cause and in most wicked manner and falsely and maliciously published.

When the matter was mentioned in court, counsel to Ehie, Tuduru Eden, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria filed for a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants forthwith either by themselves, agents prives, servants, workers or howsoever from further publication or circulating either to the general public or to any manner of persons the said malicious and libelous document subject of the suit.

The applicant counsel also sought the order of the court to direct the defendants to immediately retract the said publication and an apology to Ehie for the said invidious and libelous publication and same to be widely publicised in Channel Television network, another television network and two newspapers with nationwide readership in Nigeria.

The presiding Judge, Justice Jumbo in his ruling on the application, granted the application and order parties in the suit not to make further comments relating to the subject matter pending the determination of the suit.

Justice Jumbo thereafter adjourned till 4th of June 2025 for mention and further proceedings.
