The Nigerian Army 6 Division has kicked off a four-day inter-brigade ball games competition to enhance troops’ physical fitness, promote esprit de corps, and foster mutual trust and friendship among soldiers.
The event, held at the 6 Division Physical Training Ground in Port Harcourt Barracks, features various ball games designed to showcase the athletic skills of participants.
Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, emphasised the importance of the games in highlighting participants’ skills, strategy, and physical prowess.
Represented by Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, Commander 6 Division Garrison, Emekah assured spectators that the competition would display the best of the division’s brigades.
He noted that the competition aligned with the Nigerian Army’s emphasis on physical fitness, which is crucial for military officers due to the demanding nature of their jobs.
He noted that Physical fitness assessments, including tests for endurance, strength, flexibility, and overall fitness level, are essential in evaluating the readiness and capabilities of military personnel.
The event promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among soldiers, ultimately contributing to their overall effectiveness and well-being.
He said, “It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 6 Division Inter-Brigade Balls Competition 2025.
“This event Embodies the Spirit of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, and Healthy Competition that holds profound significance, not only as a testament to the athletic ability of our soldiers but also as a critical reflection of their operational abilities.
“Today, we gather to witness the best of our brigades as they compete in various ball games, showcasing their skills, strategy, and physical prowess. This competition is not just about winning; it’s about building camaraderie, fostering esprit de corps, and promoting physical fitness among our troops.”
Speaking further he said, “I commend the organizers for their efforts in bringing this event to life. I urge all participants to exhibit the highest level of sportsmanship, respect, and discipline, both on and off the field and also to the competing brigades, I wish you the best of luck. May the best team win, and may we all emerge from this competition stronger, more united, and more determined to serve our nation with excellence.
“It is my profound belief that your performance today would inspire your comrade and also showcase the unmatched Competence of this Division. With great pride and enthusiasm, I hereby declare the competition officially open! let the games begin, and may the best team emerge victorious.”
Delivering his welcome address, the Chief Host, Commander 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, who was represented by the Commanding Officer, 6 Division Garrison Administrative Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Orobasa Igheghe, said the competition would also exhibit exceptional athleticism and teamwork of the division’s personnel.
