Tinubu’s wife to support midwives, nurses with kits in Southwest

With the move to further bolster healthcare delivery in the country, the wife of President Bola Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will on Thursday distribute professional kits to no fewer than 10,000 midwives and nurses across the South-West.

While disclosing this, the Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Oluwaseun Osamaye, emphasised that the initiative under the Free to Shine campaign and the Triple Elimination Initiative targeting HIV/AIDS, syphilis, and hepatitis among women of reproductive age in the state, will enhance the capacity of healthcare workers and also improve maternal and child health services not only in the state but across the southwest region.

According to Osamaye, during a press briefing to herald the visit of the First Lady, who will be in the state on a two-day visit, it was revealed that a number of projects and programmes will be launched by the wife of the President.

The governor’s aide, who further stated that 200 women will be trained in textile production, stressed that the state is prepared to welcome the president’s wife and that the intervention will reach the intended beneficiaries.

She said, “The ‘Free to Shine’ program will also be launched. Both events will be held at the International Events Centre, The Dome, Alagbaka, Akure. We wish to reiterate that Her Excellency’s impactful interventions across the country are well acknowledged, highly commended, and significant to the progress of our nation.

“As a state, we have benefited from several of her initiatives, including the Educational Support Program, which offers scholarships to indigent students. We’ve also benefited from the Elderly Support Program, providing cash empowerment for senior citizens, and the Women in Cultural Support Empowerment Program. Additionally, the Youth Empowerment Program has benefited many of our young people.

“At least over 1,000 individuals have received training and cash grants. Some of our secondary school students have been inducted into the Young Farmers Club, as well as pupils in primary schools.

“Furthermore, one of our women won second place in the ‘Every Home a Garden’ national contest, which helped identify and empower women practising home gardening. We’ve also seen local customers support and empower them further.”

Osamaye added, “We’ve received several interventions from which women across other states have benefitted, and now we are prepared to host Her Excellency. The state is ready.

“The Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Lucky Aiyedatiwa; his wife, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa; the Deputy Governor, Dr Adelaide Oluwaseyi; and his wife, and leaders across all sectors of government and politics in Ondo State, are ready to receive Her Excellency.

“Ondo State will be fully prepared to welcome Her Excellency. We are also aware that the first ladies of several states across the country will be accompanying her to the Sunshine State.

“The first programme involves the presentation of 10,000 professional kits to midwives and nurses to enhance maternal healthcare across the nation. These kits will benefit approximately 10,000 midwives and nurses in the South-West region.

“The second programme is specifically targeted at 200 women in textile production. These women, all from Ondo State, will be empowered with materials and resources to support their businesses. We can authoritatively confirm that over 17 First Ladies will accompany the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We have identified several segments of women, especially those in textile production. If you have been following us recently, we have provided various empowerment opportunities to women across different sectors.”
