Chinese association supports indigents with scholarships during festival

The China-Africa Mazu Culture Association has organised a Spring Festival Ceremony to commemorate the 1065th anniversary of Mazu, the goddess of the sea.

The event, held in Lagos, featured a display of cultural heritage and launched the Chinese Consul-General’s “Together Fight Against Hunger” Charity Programme.

Consul-General Ms. Yan Yuqing stressed the importance of cultural exchange in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between China and Nigeria.

She noted Mazu’s virtues as a representation of traditional Chinese values and announced the charity program’s objective of supporting low-income families.

“It is of great significance to inherit and carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture, tell its stories, and promote mutual understanding and friendship between the people of China and Nigeria from generation to generation.

“Mazu culture is a treasure of China’s excellent traditional culture. Mazu, with her noble virtues of ‘establishing virtue, doing good deeds, and great love,’ praises the excellent traditional virtues of the Chinese nation.”

As part of the initiative, 25 children from local communities received N100,000 scholarships and food items.

Dong Qiang, President of the China-Africa Mazu Culture Association, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening China-Nigeria relations.

HRM Oba Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Obateru Of Egbin Royal Kingdom, commended the Chinese community’s philanthropic efforts in Nigeria.
