Members of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s political family in Anambra State have denied any rift in their fold, stressing that the late senator’s commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and support for President Bola Tinubu remain inviolable.
Recall that recently, former spokesman of the late senator, Mr. Kamen Ogbonna, and some others, after a tour of projects undertaken by the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo, declared that the family had chosen to identify with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) administration of the governor.
Ogbonna noted that, contrary to their former position, they are convinced that Soludo remains on track to deliver democracy dividends to the people of Anambra State.
He also pledged his group’s resolve to devote equal energy to the propagation of the governor’s achievements as they did to the late senator.
However, speaking to The Guardian over the telephone on Friday, the leader of former Anambra Political Appointees (2014-2022), Owelle Mbaso, declared that all faithful and loyal followers of the late Ubah remain intact in their support for APC.
Mbaso said that it is on record that former Senator Ubah addressed his supporters before leaving the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the APC, stressing that that stance has not been revoked.
“Those who respect the wishes and honour the memory of our dear departed senator are still on his declaration of support for APC. We refused to go back to Egypt just because our leader is no more. As his faithful supporters, we who are alive have committed to keeping the flag flying.
“Also, in line with Ifeanyi Ubah’s philosophy of ebubechukwuzo (putting God first), we have thrown our full weight behind the governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Chukwudubem Ukachukwu, for the November 8, 2025 election in Anambra State.
“Of course, we are guided by the late senator’s ideology of Gosim Kamfunanya, which is a demand to see the track records of individuals seeking public office before identifying with them. Ukachukwu fulfilled that requirement as a wealth creator and employer of labour outside public office,” Mbaso explained.
On the planned working visit of President Tinubu to commission some projects in the state next Thursday, Mbaso disclosed that the Anambra State Former Political Appointees would welcome the APC leader to the state and continue to make it clear that his party has a winner in Ukachukwu.
He stated: “The president knows we are supporting him as Ifeanyi Ubah assured him before his death. We are also supporting Hon. Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu (Ikukuoma MFR) of APC.
“Anambra State Former Political Appointees have spoken with one voice. Our victory in the November 8 Gubernatorial Election will do the announcements.
“APC is coming home. (Governor) Soludo cannot help them in APGA or even those who are with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The founding fathers with integrity have left the party to support APC.
“It is not about noise-making, but the spirit of winning that is in us. All agents of division in Anambra State have no winning mentality, but a defrauding mentality. APC is coasting home. Wear your thinking caps and beware of unstable stakeholders. They are on the loose again.”
Mbaso urged all those who claim to love and support Ifeanyi Ubah to remember the last meeting held with the senator at Best Western Hotel, Ifitte Awka, on December 10, 2023, noting that the grand union was also a uniting of hearts in love.
“We started the journey that day and resolved that it was not going to be a bad journey, but a beginning of united action for a better tomorrow. It was on that note that we committed to moving the state forward on the APC platform,” he reiterated.
