Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State were among the dignitaries who attended Wema Bank’s 80th anniversary celebration in Lagos.
The event, tagged: “Timeless Elegance,” was also attended by a representative of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who conveyed the federal government’s appreciation for Wema Bank’s contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.
The bank’s Chairman, Dr. Oluwayemisi Olorunshola, and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Moruf Oseni, led the celebration, reaffirming the bank’s commitment to digital innovation, inclusive banking, and customer-focused service.
Dr. Olorunshola stressed the bank’s 80-year journey and its transformational role in Nigeria’s banking industry, emphasizing its focus on women empowerment through initiatives like SARA by Wema.
She emphasised the Bank’s focus on women empowerment, particularly through SARA by Wema, an initiative that has reached over 400,000 unbanked women, disbursed N75 billion in low-interest loans, and created over 900 jobs.
“My journey is a testimony to what’s possible when women are empowered. Wema Bank is walking the talk in championing gender inclusion,” she said.
The MD/CEO, Mr. Oseni, described the milestone as a celebration of resilience and a renewed commitment to customer satisfaction, noting the significance of Wema Bank’s digital evolution through ALAT by Wema.
He reiterated the bank’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian populace, businesses, and economy.
