Lagos LG polls: APC chairmanship aspirant unveils transformation plans

Ahead of the July 12, 2025, local government polls, Derin Phillips, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant for the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has unveiled plans to restore confidence in the council’s leadership and tackle its challenges.

Addressing residents and party members at a rally in Obalende, Phillips pledged to structure the LCDA under a five-pillar agenda, reiterating his commitment to making the axis the pride of Lagos.

The event culminated in his endorsement by party members and residents as their chairmanship candidate.

The aspirant’s plan, tagged “FAITH,” focuses on Financing and innovation, Access to Social Welfare, Innovation in Education and Technology, Transparency in Governance, and Health and the Environment. Phillips emphasised that this agenda offers solutions to the council’s challenges and ensures everyone benefits from the dividends of democracy.

According to Phillips, the plan was designed after a holistic review of residents’ needs and his observations of the LCDA’s geographical and economic relevance. “I am doing this because this is my home, and I believe I am the most prepared and equipped to serve our people and run for this seat,” he said.

Phillips noted his leadership skills, acquired through service to the state, and his experience as a businessman with interests in entertainment, agriculture, and real estate.

He assured that under his watch, petty traders and young entrepreneurs would have access to grants, and residents, especially the vulnerable, would have access to social welfare.

The aspirant also pledged to expand his free medical outreach initiative, which has benefited over 100,000 Lagosians, and to prioritise Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the council’s development plans.

He stressed the importance of communication, stating that his phone number would be publicly available to ensure unhindered access to residents.

With a background in leadership roles and a passion for politics, Phillips believes he is well-equipped to lead the LCDA. “What the people should expect is dynamism, creativity, excellence, and a visionary leader,” he said
